Before a study session, decide which phone tools are part of the work and which apps tend to interrupt it. Keep the first group available, block or silence the second, and plan a specific time to check in.

Make a study tool list

You may need a calculator, authenticator, camera, class chat, or a transport app. Write those down first. It is frustrating to discover halfway through a session that a tool you rely on is unavailable.

If a messaging app is essential for a group project, decide what you need from it. You might keep it available and silence unrelated chats, or check it between work blocks.

Choose one work block

Pick a manageable period and a concrete task, such as reading ten pages or drafting an outline. Put the phone face down or out of reach. A clear finish line makes the break feel earned rather than accidental.

You can use iPhone Focus to quiet notifications and Screen Time for scheduled app limits. If a scheduled boundary is what you need, those built-in controls are a good starting point.

Use a charger boundary for tempting apps

If you want more friction than silenced notifications provide, Unplug Me can lock distracting apps until you plug in. Leave the charger away from your study spot and start a timed session when you choose to take a break.

Keep the phone available for the study tools and communication you chose in setup. Test that arrangement before an exam or an important deadline.

Review what broke your focus

After the session, ask whether the phone interrupted you, whether the work was unclear, or whether you needed a real rest. A blocker can help with the first problem; it cannot solve every cause of distraction.

Change one thing for the next block. Make the plan workable across several study days, not just one unusually focused hour.
